Rick,
That sure looks good. I was asking about an N&W cookbook a year or so ago. I just hoped and assumed the railroad had a book of their recipes so things would be standard on all trains. Sorry to find out each dining car Chef was left to his own likes and dislikes.
I have a B&O cookbook that I use quite regularly. They had the best Maryland Crab Cakes I've ever eaten.
That peach cobbler looks great and I sure hope it tastes as good as it looks! Enjoy!

Last year there was a discussion of a N&W recipe for peach cobbler. Roger Link found the recipe in the September 1947 issue of the N&W magazine. The article was named "Favorite Recipes of N&W Chefs." I bought some great peaches this week from one of the few orchardists in Jefferson County WV still growing peaches. So this is cobbler I made today from the recipe. The recipe reads like a pie recipe, but adding baking powder makes the crust rise, hence cobbler. In my research on Antietam Station, I found a newspaper article about a record number of peaches being shipped from Sharpsburg to northern cities August 9, 1893: 189 baskets and 21 crates weighing an aggregate 3915 lbs via Adams Express. Four men loaded the car in exactly six minutes. --Rick Morrison________________________________________
