Sorry for the delay in my reply. Thank you, Jimmy and Jim, for the information. As for myself, I prefer the rebuild version with the “Y” steam pipes. I also did not know that MTH sold any undecorated versions of their locomotives. Are they special order? I have the PS-3 model of the Y3.

My Proto 2000 Y3s came with conversion parts so that the model could be upgraded to the configuration of 2033, which I chose to do. I bought "undec" versions as I wanted to (and did) decal the for my freelance model rr, so I don't know of the conversion parts were included with all of them.

That is because your model is based on the "as built" version. When the N&W upgraded the Y5 class of locos with cast engine beds, some of the Y3/Y3a's were rebuilt with the former front engine from a Y5. The 2033 is an example.
