Thanks for the advice.
Before I decided on the N&W I knew I planned an “all steam” layout. And it really was to be generic, no specific RR.
It was also going to be freight only as to my mind there weren’t any really interesting steam passenger trains. As previously indicated, then I discovered the N&W J and coordinated passenger cars. That got me “into” the N&W; now several books on the N&W later I’m hooked. What a story for steam lovers!
I relettered the tender on a beautiful NYC 2-8-2 Mikado as N&W — which will pass for anyone visiting my layout. But I was curious about prototype authenticity. Might very well consider changing lettering as you suggest (perhaps “Virginian”?) to run over N&W lines with freight.
Appreciate the ideas. Still learning about this hobby.
