The N&W did not colorize in stages. When they went to color lenses in the mid 1960’s, the amber lenses were eliminated in their entirety.

The PRR however, only replaces the horizontal lenses for stop with red lenses at interlocking, dubbed “red eyes”, this became more or less standard on most of the PRR and into Conrail.
