My kids took the hint and gave me Herron Rail Video's "NKP 759 & the Last N&W Pocahontas" for Christmas, I thought I'd share a few thoughts. I had really been looking forward to this DVD, as it was the first live steam locomotive I witnessed as an innocent 9 year old. The quality of the film isn't quite as good as I'm used to from Herron, but still wonderful to watch. Its basically divided into two sections. The first being the freight run down the Shenandoah division to Roanoke and the next the Pocahontas' last run. I believe I can identify two scenes that are left with no descriptions in the section on the last Pocahontas. The scene immediately after Bedford was shot in Lynchburg, at the east end of Cotton Mill trestle, on Otey Street, City Stadium can be seen in the distance as the train approaches the viewer. Also, the scene just after Evergreen is Prospect. As the camera pans the passing train, the Prospect depot can be seen in the going away shot.
As a note, the sound used on this video was recorded and released years ago on an LP which I listened to many times as a kid. I believe any fan of either the old N&W or NKP berkshires would enjoy this DVD and I'm delighted that Herron has made it available. -Ed Burnett, Lynchburg, Virginia
