Ron,

 

The 14 J’s got the cupola and water connections on their tenders from late January to early March 1958.  There are photos with the J tenders having the cupola while in passenger service.  There are no pictures of them using the A-tanks in passenger service that I have seen.  

 

After the Bristol line was dieselized on 1 January 1958, three J’s were assigned to the Scioto Division for use there in freight service.  A-tanks were used there.  After the J’s were bumped off passenger service in July ’58, some were used in local freight work and photos show that A-tanks were used on them then.
