Duplicates of this slide (link is below) have surfaced on ebay several times over the past couple years.? What I find interesting is the single car in the train:? a portable power generator converted from a boxcar.? Strange that it?s being moved by itself.? Suggestions as to why?? Maybe an ?emergency? situation somewhere?

?

I have attached a shot of power car 410 and I?ve seen a power car in the background of the 0-8-0 228 shot (also attached).? Just curious as to if there were several of these cars and where would they have been used other than with office cars as may be the case with 410.

Jim King?s question about possible emergency uses for a power car reminded me of two articles I found in the Circleville Herald (Scioto Division).

Twice in a (almost exactly) ten year stretch - in August of 1942 and 1952 - the Esmeralda Canning company had boiler problems that interrupted their corn canning production in the middle of the harvest rush. It was bad enough that they had to ask farmers to slow down their picking.

In both cases, a call to the division superintendent in Portsmouth led to a locomotive being dispatched from Columbus to provide boiler steam. The articles were silent on which locomotive type was dispatched (the industry track - the old main line alignment - could support Zs and Ks).

I?m curious how often this type of service was supplied by the railroads.

Waynesboro was what the ebay description was. If not there, where?

All,
? The Board of Directors meeting occurred this past weekend.? We discussed and the directors approved the creation of a separate list strictly for items for sale and wanted to buy.? I had asked for two volunteers to moderate this list.? Dr. Greer was one and there was a second person but I cannot recall who that was even after searching through the sea of emails pertaining to this topic.? I ask that Dr. Greer and the second person contact me directly at arnett at nwhs.org regarding this new list.
? The rules for this list set forth by the Directors are as follows:
   - No commercial or vendor sales permitted. Personal collection items only may be listed for sale.

   - Items must be related to the N&W and it's predecessors.? Post 1982 (NS) is not permitted.
   - The N&WHS will in no form be responsible for transactions (failed and successful) and will not take any action to settle any disputes. All transactions shall be based on the honor system.

   - The moderators of this list will set additional rules and they shall govern.

? The list will become active once I have communicated with the moderators and our IT folks create the list.? No timeline to give yet? as our current focus is the convention.? Thanks to all.
Todd ArnettPresident, NWHS
