Foreign signals

How can one distinguish an NKP-style signal from a SOU-style signal when
looking at them in photos?  I believe NKPs began being installed in some
places on the old N&W (e.g. Buchanan Branch) after the 1964 merger.  Did
the N&W get any SOU-style signals prior to the invasion of the Vaders?
