Question regarding track diagrams

   Suspect that you have reference to the track chartsfrom the 1950s -- looks like a blue print that folds up.Don't have one at hand now, but beginning in the60s, N&W published track charts with SYMBOLS shown onthe front cover that included symbols for ballast andsymbols for rail weight.  Both the rail weight and typeof ballast were shown on each individual page too.Then came the Norfolk Southern (ex-Southern)version (yuck) -printed on vertical pages  with no ballastinformation, but showing dates sections were tied andsurfaced instead.  The 1993 track chart for the PiedmontDivision is 564 pages plus.  Incidentally, the old NS track charts showed ballast types and from Tidewater(on the ex-VGN) to Virginia Beach, it was oyster shells.                                               Harry Bundy
