You will not likely come close to recognizing the location. But it was right next to the railroad. But the more I think about it, I might have been mistaken and it was the southwest corner of 5th Street and Shenandoah, not 10th Street.
The bridge did change everything, and it was one of those places I never recorded, just like so many places, thought it would be there, never figured anyone would tear down such a neat building.

But spent vast amount of time in Roanoke as both sets of grandparents worked for the N&W and retired there ... maternal grandfather worked in the GOB as an accountant and paternal grandfather at Shaffer's Crossing as a mechanic. It must be Roanoke I am remembering. The next time I am in Roanoke I'll need to go down to Shenandoah and 10th St to take a look and see if it jogs my memory. I doubt so as that bridge build seemed to change everything in the vicinity. Once again, thank you Mr Miller, Mr. Nichols, and Mr Ervine.

My father told us kids, yes, it was made of coal. He had spent much of his child in Bluefield. I can't recall what else he told us about the building.
