N&W did operate some high capacity gondolas in addition to the experimental hoppers and gons. The class GK gondolas were a slab-sided design and rode on 6 wheel trucks. There were several hundred built in the mid-teens and operated into the early 1950s. Somewhere in my collection I have a DVD which shows some of these cars in service in the late 1940s and early 50s. As Ken mentioned there is information about them in chapter 5 of Andrew Dow's book N&W Coal Cars. -Ed Burnett, Lynchburg

I know they are not perfect and need extra attention, but after putting micro-train trucks under them, they look quite nice and work fine. 3D printing could offer unlimited items to manufacture, that otherwise would never be made except for scratch building.
