Entered railroad service Sept. 25, 1875, since which he has been consecutively Sept. 25, 1875, to Oct. 1877, draftsman mechanical engineer's office Pennsylvania Rd, Altoona; Oct. 1877 to May 1879, assistant in test department same road same place;  May 1879 to Oct. 1881, superintendent motive power Northern Central Ry;  Oct. 1881 to June 1882 superintendent motive power Philadelphia & Erie division Pennsylvania Rd; June 1882 to June 1883, superintendent of motive power Pittsburgh Cincinnati & St Louis Ry;  June 1883 to  Dec. 1885, superintendent motive power New York West Shore & Buffalo Ry;  Dec. 1885 to Feb. 1887, superintendent motive power New York Lake Erie & Western Rd;  Feb. 1, 1887, to April 30, 1888 general manager New York Lake Erie & Western Rd;  Nov. 1888 to June 1891, general agent Union Switch & Signal Co.;  June 1891 to July 1, 1897, superintendent motive power Norfolk & Western Rd;  Aug. 1, 1897, to Dec. 1, 1899, with Baldwin Locomotive Works, Philadelphia, Pa., for nearly one year traveling in South Africa and Russia and  1 1/2 years western representative at Chicago, Ill.; May 1, 1900, to Jan. 1, 1905, consulting mechanical engineer at New York NY.
