Two Rod and Valve Gear Questions

One answer was posted to this, and then the tread transitioned into other
areas.  I have waited hoping someone else would comment about Abram's
question (1), but it hasn't happened, so I shall.

Abram's parenthetical decision that the answer has to be "yes",  the
distance from center of axle to center of main driving crank pin is
one-half the piston stroke, is correct, and it's true fro any driver
diameter.  Mental logic said he was right, a freehand sketch said he was
right, and calling up from the NWHS web site the drawings for the main
driver on the J and the main driver on the Y3 through Y6b verified it - 16
in. in all cases for a 32 in. piston stroke.
