In about 1953 or 1954 my father took me and several friends on a train ride from Lynchburg to Bedford for my birthday.
We rode on No. 7, the Petersburg to Roanoke local which departed Lynchburg about 3:45 (after a 25 minute stop to work the mail and express) and had a 4:05 flag stop at Forest. And I recall that the train did indeed stop at Forest. I returned several times over the next sixty years to see the station as it gradually deteriorated.
No. 7 most often was pulled by a streamlined K and had a consist of two to four mail cars and a coach, as best I can remember.
