Anyone know what train this is?

That is probably No. 9,  at one time scheduled from Monroe to Bristol, but
later cut back to Roanoke to Bristol. Southern handled the head end traffic
Monroe - Washington with a scheduled connecting  train, but no passengers.  

N&W appeared before the State Commerce Commission and filed for dis-
continuance of Nos. 9 and 10 citing lack of passenger ridership and the head end
traffic was transferred to other Monroe-Bristol trains. 

On holidays, students at the girls schools in Bristol depended on No. 10  to
forward them to Roanoke to connect with No. 2 to get home.   Delayed by
heavy Christmas head-end traffic, N&W would hold No. 2 until a connection
could be made with No. 10.                                    Harry Bundy
