Gottard Tunnel

Having driven over Gottard a couple of times, and been fascinated by the twisting trackage that doubles back on itself a few times, I salute the Swiss and other Euro countries that helped foot some of the cost.
Though the tunnel certainly speeds things up the primary reason the Swiss wanted this was to reduce truck traffic and the attendant air pollution that ensued.  See Wikipedia  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gotthard_Base_Tunnel
