Y-5 Odd Feature

I think it's a speaker and the associated J-box. Several of the Y-5 pictures show this and I'm guessing that they were placed on the front end for the brakemen . The Y-s were used in hump service and I guess a speaker on the front would be helpful to the brakeman.

Subject: Y-5 Odd Feature

I was re-reading my book Norfolk & Western Ry Steam Pictorial by Ben Bernhart and noticed something odd on Y-5 #2111 on page #65. There is something on and above the pilot on the engine's right side. It looks like a horn or something above but the lower part doesn't look familiar. Anyone know what it could be?

Thanks,
