Frank:

I have read that they were often used on some of the mainline locals until
those trains disappeared. Also, they were protection power for the name
trains; when I lived in Bluefield, VA and rode the bus to Bluefield, WV for
my orthodontist appointments, I'd see one of them stationed in the engine
servicing area. Reportedly, with a short train like the Powhatan Arrow,
they could maintain schedule Bluefield - Williamson, but I'd defer to people
closer to the facts to confirm or not.

Hello, all

Other than the K engines that ran between Norfolk and Richmond Broad
Street, how often were K locomotives used in passenger service elsewhere on the
main line? I had the impression that J-class locomotives were used and
that K engines were relegated to branch lines to Durham, Winston-Salem,
Hagerstown, and elsewhere. I have attached a picture of N&W 124 at Farmville,
unknown year.

Happy holidays to all,
