Dave,

Thank you for sharing the account and photos of your 1957 Chase in the
/Arrow/--more, please.

Any chance the photo on p.13 was taken at the Falls Mills (Va) depot?
The grade here is also only about a quarter percent, but you are looking
west toward Flat Top. A public grade crossing and Downtown would be
directly behind you. You would be standing where earlier, boxcars of
blasting powder were unloaded to be trucked to a nearby warehouse and
there was a stockyard beyond the end of the platform.

I have a question concerning Dave Vos' "*A Great Locomotive Chase*" article
in the April-May-June 2014 issue of the *Arrow* (which I enjoyed very
much). The caption on page 11 concerning engine 477 references delivering
cars to VMI in Lexington. Since this is about the "Huckleberry" on the
Blacksburg branch of the N&W and switching cars in Christiansburg, how are
the cars going to get to Lexington which is about 80 miles northeast of
Christiansburg? Last time I checked, Blacksburg is and always has been
home to VPI, the Virginia Polytechnic Institute, not VMI. :)
