What's in a name?

.  The names can come from anywhere I> guess is what I'm saying.

Before the N&W/SOU merger,  along U. S.  29 near Covesville, the
south end of double track was identified by sign as HAMNER.  If
you watched 1970s TV, there was a program called THE WALTONS,
a family that lived in nearby Schuyler during the depression.  The creator
of the drama was Earl Hamner.   I suspect the naming protocol came
