I can tell you that while at Ft Eustis from 69-70 we had a steam plant failure and one of the 714 TBROSDE 0-8-0s was placed into service. Only temporary but the engine had to be idled due to build up in the firebox. Chocks were welded to the rails and the steam lines were hoses, not pipes. I will forward this question to one of my former LTs in C Company.
