Ed,
So are you saying that if the "D" plate weren't there, the signal would
show approach and provide block protection in that it would indicate that
the block between the signal and the main was unoccupied? A movement off
the branch would still have to be prepared to stop at the next signal. So
if the concern was that there might be another train in the block, wouldn't
restricting be more appropriate, since the engineer would have to watch out
for anything in the block?
