Control points, controlled signals and intermediate signals

Jimmy,
Good information, but I still don't see definitions for some of the terms
that are being kicked around in these discussions.  For example:  control
point, controlled signal and  intermediate signal don't seem to be
mentioned.  Home signal is defined as "A fixed signal at the entrance of a
route or block to govern trains or engines entering and using that route or
block".  This implies to me that a home signal could be an automatic block
signal as well as an interlocking signal.  Previously, I had associated the
term home signal only with interlockings.  Also, there seems to be no
definition for distant signal.  Would a distant signal be any signal that
gives a "preview" of the aspect of a corresponding/subsequent home signal?
