Is there any chance that the original edition of the Railfan's Guide could
be scanned into the archives and made available. That is the location and
era that I am most interested in. What more does it include?

Yep, I have one too, finding it might be the issue.

 

In fact, several folks talked some years back now, of doing a new updated
edition, but decided that making it usable, and keeping liability in mind,
nothing was ever done. It was also considered to expand it slightly to the
surrounding areas (i.e. Salem, Vinton, etc.) The consideration of the
ever-present lawsuit if someone went somewhere and trespassed because we
pointed something out and got hurt or killed... well you understand.

While I am somewhat familiar with Roanoke, could one of you provide a map to
illustrate your info.  Would help me a lot in placing what your are saying.

    You are one lucky dude tonight. The following map is from the 1977
booklet "A Railfan's Guide To Roanoke" by none other than our own Abe
Burnette. How many of you have a copy of that one?
