Need Help to ID N&W Can

I believe what you have is the bottom end of an oil can! If I am correct  
there would have been a long spout screwed on the top so an engineer could 
oil  his running gear as needed. Just my best guess!

stamped "N&W RY CO" on the side and has the  name of the manufacturer on the 
bottom.  Unfortunately all we can make  out on the underside is "MFG CO".  
The actual name is beyond  recognition.  The can is 11" H x 6-3/4" W.  Any 
insight is greatly  appreciated.
