During the 1960s and 1970s, what color were the N&W girder bridges that were used to overpass a US or state highway ?

Was the Norfolk and Western name painted on the sides ?
Paul:
I don't believe it spread to a system-wide experiment, but on the Pittsburgh Division, N&W greased,
rather than painted bridges. The bridges had been painted black and I suspect any identification
to N&W was obliterated when sprayed. Just west of Rook Yard (Pittsburgh) was the Whiskey Run
viaduct over the thruway to the airport. As the bridge heated from the summer sun rays, the grease
would drip onto the highway causing vehicles to spin out of control and crash. Harry Bundy
