I plan to have a combination station so LCL is a good point.
By definition, doesn't that mean the train crew would stay and unload the package to the station agent and keep the boxcar connected to the train? (rather than leave the car on a siding)

Probably. The LCL car was unloaded during the station stop provided there were sufficient time to
unload without delaying the train. If there were delays , the car MAY have been set off on the house
track.
Here's a little more about the transformer overhauler. It was Sprague Electric 1.5 miles on the
Abingdon side of Warrensville.
Incidentally, you mentioned "House" track. Larger stations also had what was known as
a "Team Track". It was here that shippers without a private siding loaded and unloaded
