N&W/Southern thru passenger service

Yes: D&RGW, SR, Rock Island, Georgia Railroad, and the Reading did not join
Amtrak in May 1971. Plus a few other railroads continued their commuter
service in and around Chicago, Cleveland, Philadelphia, New York and
California.
