Need Help - No Trespassing Sign

As a reminder to older members and new members, the N&W (and other
railroads) issued what might be considered a 'standard parts and methods'
book to each engineer/designer/draftsman in the Right of Way/civil
engineering department (and probably section foremen) that held roughly 300
drawings of the standard parts, components, switches, track signs, depot
signs, ballast forks, shovels and so on that would be used to design, build
and maintain the right of way. Each drawing would have been under
engineering change notice control and would have been revised periodically,
if necessary, as design changes were made. As change notices were issued,
the print shop in Roanoke would have issued a new replacement drawing and
sent it out to the book's owner. He would have been tasked to pull the old
version out and replace it with the revised version at the implementation
date. As there were many of these books published in the older days, one
tends to find the latest version of the drawings, but not always. A few
books will have the old print as well as the new print with some sort of
wording scrawled over the obsolete drawing about when it was revised to a
new version, the date and change notice number if that reference would have
been useful.

Some sign drawings will have some description/definition as to how they were
to be placed near facilities and the track such as Yard Limits sign or Water
sign.

Some years ago, the N&WHS Commissary sold copies of the RoW standards book
and has signal standards available as well.

This drawing also answers the question about the significance of the
"31215". You'll see many instances in many contexts of the pattern number
appearing somewhere in a casting. Truck frames may be the best-known
example, but as this shows, it's a common practice.

This cast iron no trespassing sign was acquired at the train show in
Gaithersburg, MD. The sign measures 8" H x 14" W and has an identifying
number of "31215" in the lower right corner. I've never seen one like this
before, even in photos from the N&W era. Where would a sign like this have
been found? Any information is appreciated.
