N&W acquired a route from Clare Yard in Cincinnati to New Castle, Indiana,
on April 1, 1976, in connection with the formation of Conrail. Using the
former NKP line from New Castle to Muncie thus provided N&W with a through
route from Cincinnati to Muncie.
