Well said Ed,

Having seen the 8103 in person I am pretty pleased with the blue, and I am
a stickler for the correct color. (just ask Ken Miller). When Casey first
posted Norfolk Southern's official photo of the 8103 he had lightened the
photo to enhance the black trucks so the blue got lighter which ignited a
flurry of complaints.

I am delighted with Norfolk Southern's efforts. It's like Christmas every
few days as these beautiful locomotives emerge from the paint shop. Thank
you Norfolk Southern!

N&W Blue (Herman Pevler’s Wabash inspired blue) has the same issues that
are always so amusing to discuss with N&W Red. I lived in Ohio during the
1970’s and shot thousands of N&W roster shots getting to within 200 units
of having the entire N&W roster on 35mm slides. N&W Blue much like the N&W
Red varied in its’ shade…… and with dirt and weathering and light
conditions there came additional variations. The EMD units such as the GP-40’s,
SD-40’s, and SD-45’s seemed darker than the GE 1900 series U-28b’s and U-30b’
s. With time, repainted former-NKP GP-9’s and 7’s became very light in
shade. The N&W ES44AC looks to be well within the spectrum of N&W blues
that I have seen and still have within my slide collection.

The paint code(s) for the N&W blue was provided (to Juniata) by the EMD
archives. The assistant general super at JLS is a native of Portsmouth, OH
and a good friend. He took this particular unit to heart and he and his
forces have put a lot of effort into all of the heritage units. I visited him
this past weekend in Altoona and a comment was made about the complaining.
I merely re-assured him that not everyone in this hobby is always grateful
or satisfied.

Let's keep in mind that the railroad exists to make money, not to satisfy
hobbyists in any way, shape or form. Be thankful that Mr. Moorman put this
program into play.

Regards,

Todd Arnett

Thanks for sharing. I am so disappointed that NS chose the blue scheme
over a black or N&W red scheme. To add insult to injury, that blue is not dark
 enough.

I really like some of the other schemes though - especially the NKP unit!

I hadn't seen either of these posted to the list, so for those who haven't
yet seen them, I've linked the two most recent photos (that I've seen,
anyway).
