Whence Pevler... and Why?

Additionally…………Pevler was a Pennsylvania RR man. He’d gone to the Wabash from the Pennsylvania. The Wabash was essentially owned and controlled by the Pennsylvania so Pevler was planted there by the Pennsylvania. With the merger/lease efforts underway for N&W to lease the Wabash and merge with the NKP and others into an expanded N&W system…….. and the Pennsylvania still controlling the N&W, Pevler went from the Wabash to the N&W in 1963 when Saunders left the N&W to go to the Pennsylvania. The Pennsy control of the N&W ended in 1968 when it merged with the NYC. In 1970 Pevler retired and John Fishwick, a true N&W man, became N&W’s president. This too is a most intriguing story by itself.

A minor point. Stuart Saunders resigned as N&W president effective September 30, 1963, to become Chairman and CEO of PRR, and Pevler became president of the N&W effective Oct. 1, 1963, but the Wabash did not become part of the N&W until Oct. 16, 1964.

What is the inside story on the N&W's acquisition of Pevler along with the Wabash Railroad? Was this Stuart Saunders' way of getting Pevler off the PRR property, disposing of him along with the Wabash? Anyone know the politics behind the move?
