High Trestle

Dear High Trestle,

                What you most likely saw was the Trace Branch viaduct. It is
1244 feet long and consists of 27 deck plate girder spans. The maximum
height is 125 feet from ground to rail. As a bit of trivia, it is also of a
1.5% (compensated) grade from Field VA to Summit Tunnel which is  located at
the top. It is very impressive and hard to get it all into one photograph
from ground level.

We followed the tracks down from Berwind to Cedar Bluff yesterday and noted
a quite impressive high trestle between Amonate and Bandy. Is this structure
the highest/longest on that branch?
