Historians,

As we all know, the surviving rail corporation is Norfolk Southern, aka NS.
Was or was not the rail company of many years ago known as Norfolk & Southern, aka N&S ???

Thanks,

Dave:
There WAS a Norfolk & Southern. The outfit wandered in and out of
receivership many times. The problem became to retain the reporting
marks on the rolling stock similar. When the Norfolk & Southern
Railway went into receivership, the surviving company became the
Norfolk Southern with the ampersand covered over with a diamond. The
railroad wandered out of receivership about 1940 for the last time and
became the Norfolk Southern Railway Company. Similarly, there was a
Seaboard Air Line Railroad and a Seaboard Air Line Railway. Harry Bundy
