Subject: Pocahontas Division towers

Can anyone with a knowledge of Pocahontas Division operations elaborate on the different interlocking stations that were still in service in the post 1960 era? Were they actual towers, or simply one story 'cabin' style buildings?

I'm especially interested in the offices at Cedar Bluff, Devon, Dry Fork Junction (Iaeger), Hull, SX Tower (St. Paul), Tug (Welch) and Weller.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Ron S.

In the late 70's during an assignment at Carbo, there was a visit to St. Paul to make a phone call to Erwin, TN.
By my recollection, the interlocking at that time was in the Clinchfield depot on the south side of
the Clinch Valley main line. This interlocking was expanded in the early 70's to include a connection
track. L&N had been granted trackage rights on the N&W from Norton to St. Paul and a new connection
was built so that their coal trains could move directly south on the Clinchfield. Harry Bundy
