*Wouldn't an eastbound train off the Bristol line have to run in reverse from Walton to Potts Valley Junction in order to get on the Virginian at Norcross and come east into Roanoke?

Gordon-
There was a wye track at Walton and that was the route of the Radford-Bluefield local
as well as the Potts Valley Shifter. The terminal facility at East Radford had a 60 ft.
turntable until maybe the 1950's. After that, anything that needed turning got sent
to the Walton wye. Not sure what happened after the detour arrived at the Potts
Valley connection - coulda been VGN hooked an engine to the rear of the train and
hauled it backwards to Roanoke OR it seems there had been a 60 ft turntable in the
neighborhood of Ripplemead where the engine might be turned. Harry Bundy
