Trash containers

Russ,
Thanks for the info. I suspected that the landfill at Bradshaw (Smith Gap Landfill) could be the destination, but I am curious to see if anyone knows for certain. If so I wonder how the "trashtainers" are unloaded. The Waste Line Express cars are rotary dumped at the landfill, but I understand the "trashtainers" have an end gate and are designed to be raised at the opposite end to be unloaded like the bed of a dump truck.

Gordon;
The CoalTainers have gone into trash service within the past decade. They come out of the NY/NJ - Philly area and go tovarious dump sites in the southeast. I've seen them on CSX Trash Trains through Richmond, VA. Since you saw the run west through Roanoke, I would suspect that they are headed to the waste containment facility in Bradshaw, VA, where the WasteLiners go.
David Casdorph; of Atlas and Freight Car Journal fame, just released a book on the Trash Containers of New Jersey, which is available through Atlas and Amazon, amongst others, I'm sure; was "featured" on a clip on Jimmy Fallon's late night show of books not on his "To Read" list. This book was subject including 4 or 5 others. The clip can be found on YouTube if anyone is interested. A link can be found on the Atlas HO model forum.
I did see a copy of the book at my local hobby shop over the weekend and looked through it. The CoalTainers are covered in this publication.

At about 11:15 a.m. today I saw some of the small (apparently 20-foot) containers loaded six to a two-platform articulated flat car go west by the Roanoke Rail Cam. There were 16 cars toting 96 containers. Some were marked "CoalTainer," and I was previously told by some Mail Lister that they were trash containers from New Jersey, as I remember it (so, I suppose these are TrashTainers). My question is, assuming they have trash in them, what is their destination?
