THREE LOSE LEGS
------
Accidents Result From Trying to Get on or Off Moving Trains

Three men lost limbs yesterday as a result of trying to get on and off trains on the Norfolk and Western. All were taken to the Miner's hospital at Welch.
James Fountaine, colored, lost his left leg below the knee when he tried to get off a moving freight. His leg slipped through the stirrup and before he could get it out the other leg slipped underneath the car wheels and was amputated.
George McLaughlin, colored, whose home is at west Vivian, attempted to catch the Pullman car on train No. 1, just as the train started out of the Keystone station. He slipped and fell beneath the car and had his right foot cut off. The train took him to the hospital.
Verner Taylor, a miner, whose home is at McDowell, was walking the track near Crumpler with two companions when he decided to ride a passing freight. Seizing the grappling iron he swung himself to the stirrup of the car and his foot went through. Before he could withdraw it the train had passed over the left instep of the other foot and he had to be removed to a hospital.
