ENGINE BLOWN UP

Joseph Reese Painfully Burned About Face, Hands and Arms

    Yesterday morning about 6 o'clock one of the class M engines blew up at Northfork, scalding Joseph Reese, the engineer.  C. S. Brooks, his fireman, was not badly injured and was able to go to his home after being treated by Dr. L. H. Clark, of Kyle.  Engineer Reese was quite badly burned about the face, hands and arms but after his injuries had been dressed by Dr. Clark he showed so few ill effects it was not necessary to take him to a hospital and he was taken to his home in an ambulance which met train No. 4 on its arrival here.
    The cause of the explosion will be investigated.  It is believed that low water was responsible, although it may be that the crown sheet blew down, as has occurred before with this class of engines, which do not blown [sic] up as ordinary engines do but blown [sic]downward.
