AGRICULTURAL SPECIAL PASSES THROUGH CITY

No Lectures Delivered Here, Farmers Not Being Close Enough to Derive Any Benefit
    About noon yesterday the Norfolk and Western Agricultural Special passed through this city on its way east to Narrows.  The train stopped here but ten minutes, arriving at 12:30 and leaving at 12:40.  After a brief stop at Narrows where a crowd had gathered, the train went on to Roanoke where it arrived at 6:45 last night.
   No lectures were delivered in this city, as the farmers in this section are not close enough to the railroad to derive any great benefit from such lectures or else have not showed sufficient interest in the work of the car which at this time is making more of a specialty of Virginia farming.  At Tazewell, however, a huge crowd gathered in the cars and listened to several interesting talks which evidently were appreciated.
    At Tazewell the farmers highly enjoyed the lectures from the different gentlemen.  Dr. E. A. Shubert, in charge of the special, made the opening address and complimented the people of Tazewell in regard to the good road movement and said he represented the largest taxpayer, the Norfolk and Western Railway Company, and they were in favor of good roads, etc.  The party was accompanied from Tazewell to Bluefield by H. S. Bowen and T. R. Smoot.
    After leaving Roanoke the train, which runs special, will go to other points where it will stop and spread the gospel of better farming and the results from intensive farming.
