GREEN FLAGS TO GO
------
Will No Longer Wave From Rear of Norfolk and Western Passenger Trains
No more shall the green flag wave on the rear of Norfolk and Western passenger trains. An order has been sent out by the officials requiring that in the future, instead of carrying green flags, the regulation lamps will be used, which will display lights during foggy or dark weather and will be used as usual after nightfall. At night they are a necessity and it is doubtful if they will ever be replaced even though the block system is perfected to an even greater extent than it now is. The cutting out of the flags will save the Norfolk and Western considerable money annually. Train flags are made of an excellent grade of worsted cloth which is expensive and the staffs are also costly.
