Thanks for the information. Did the under cutting occur, or did the liner
get notched?

I am attaching the engineering study for Huger Tunnel. It
is a large file and I hope the moderator will allow it to go through. In
this you will find what options were considered and why they chose the one
that they did. A lot of thought went into this as you will see. If you want
to re-visit the good old days, hopefully we will have something for you to
read about Christmas.

Subject: Tunnel design question
Does anyone know what factors went into the separated design of Huger or
Montgomery tunnels versus both tracks through the same bore like Elkhorn,
Davy and Roderfield?
Are there other separated tunnels (other than Hatfields, which were bored at
separate times?)
