SHOOTING SCRAP ON PASSENGER TRAIN
------
Chief of Police at Kimball Was Shot in the Foot
It was reported by passengers on No. 16 last night that an altercation took place between Harry Hamner, chief of police of Kimball, and Alex Huffard, an officer in the coalfield, just as that train was leaving Welch, which caused consternation among the passengers. According to the meagre details of the affair that have leaked out Huffard had a strangle hold on Hamner and attempted at the time to pull his (Huffard's) gun, an attempt that was frustrated by the prompt action of Chief of Police Brewster, of Welch, who was in the crowd, knocking it to the floor and discharging it. The ball entering Hamner's foot caused a flesh wound. Hamner got off the train at Kimball while Huffard left the train father up in the field.
The affair came about so suddenly that the passengers hardly realized what was taking place until the affray was over. The firing of the shot resulted in much confusion.
Both of the parties are well known and have many friends throughout the coal field who deplore the unfortunate out come of the affair.
