CAMP CARS BURN AND SET FIRE TO ADJOINING PROPERTY
------
Oakvale Menaced by Fire Originating in Cars on Siding
A number of camp cars on the side track at Oakvale caught fire yesterday afternoon, and from these the hay house of the Oakvale Grocery Co., caught, and was destroyed. It is not known how the fire originated. The wholesale concern's big building was endangered and a large quantity of goods were removed from it. The loss is large and could not be ascertained last night. The Oakvale Grocery is a wholesale concern and Mr. I. I. Hearn*, of Oakvale, is the principal stockholder.

[To someone familiar with small community of Oakvale of the last fifty years or so it is hard to imagine that it once had a wholesale grocery. A May 27, 1903, article in the Bluefield Daily Telegraph, however, mentioned an engine watchman at Oakvale as though pusher engines were once based there. Also, someone wrote that Oakvale had a large sawmill at one time.]
