Party Goes to Roanoke to Confer With Railroad Officials
A committee consisting of D. J. F. Strother, J. F. Johnson, William Leckie, and W. J. McClaron, of Welch, went to Roanoke to meet the officials of the Norfolk and Western relative to the construction of a new depot at Welch to replace the station now in use and which many believe will not fit in with the plans of the town's people to erect a first-class array of buildings on the squares burned out by the January fire. The committee passed through the city last night on their way home and while here one of the gentlemen said the offficials had accorded them a very satisfactory interview and they feel that the prospects for a new depot are very bright.
