IN CITY AND COALFIELD
------
Machinist Painfully Hurt
Pat Long, a machinist at the railroad shops, suffered a painful injury Sunday. He was working in the round house, and becoming blinded by the steam arising from the floor, walked into a pit, spraining his ankle severely and suffering other minor injuries. He will be confined to his room for two or three weeks.
------
Fell in Icy Flood
Charles W. Akers, the well known trainmaster, fell into the river at Richlands while trying to loosen some debris which had dammed the water at that point. He experienced no ill effects from the accident.
[Apparently a trainmaster in those days was a jack of all trades.]
