AAR 40' box cars?

Ken,

The N&W did not own any AAR steel 40' boxcars.  Many other roads did, and you need only reference the web sites of Red Caboose/Intermountain or Branchline to see what roads they decorated their AAR cars for.  As far as I know, none of these manufacturers offered bogus schemes; only prototypically correct ones.

In your time era, the only "standard" car design N&W owned was the USRA single-sheathed boxcar; they had 800 of these in class BK; however, sometime in the late 30s/early 40s, N&W replaced the peak roofs of these cars with radial roofs.  Westerfield offers a one-piece body resin kit for the N&W car.

It isn't until the mid/late 1950s that N&W began purchasing some "standard" design cars, such as the PS-1 boxcars and PS-2 covered hoppers.

Subject: AAR 40' box cars?

I returned from a train show today with a generous handful of AAR steel
40' box cars - mostly Athearn, but a few others as well.  I'm not
impressed with the paint or details, so a little work is in order.  As
such, I have an opportunity to repaint and re-letter the cars.

Did the N&W have any such cars in 1940?  If so, what did they look like?
What road numbers?  Are there HO scale decals available for them?
