"A" tanks

My brain threw a loop and said it was Norfolk, its ROANOKE!!

There was a 2-8-0 there, that was moved earlier by a restaurant owner in
Ohio and it is now painted up on display in Ohio. That engine probably
will never operate, the steam dome was cut off for clearances.

For the trivia, the Strasburg 4-8-0 was also at that scrap iron dealer
years ago and Strasburg acquired it and restored it to operation, they
recently did a makeover on the engine 475 to 382 to commemorate the
branchline operations of the N&W, they even "weathered" the engine up.

There was a Y6b at the scrap yard for many years also, but when the
scrap yard changed owners it was cut up immediatly.
Yoweees.

You may not have noticed but N&W engines never had their numbers on the
tenders, because when they went into the shops, they could come out with
a totally different tender. The 4-8-0's in their service careers might
have recieved different tenders, which has been true, some engines
getting a larger tender perhaps weighing the same as the engine itself!
We can't be sure if the tenders at the scrapyard were actually used
behind the 4-8-0's, but the possibility is obvious that could be true,
and if for any wild happenings any one of those 4-8-0's were to be
brought back to steam operation, the tenders could work.

I know of 2 M2's that were sold off to other railroads, I was able to
track one down, the engine did not perform to their expectations, IE a
locomotive design like the 4-8-0 has a specific purpose which works on
the N&W but not for another line. That engine was eventually scrapped. I
am still on the persuit what happened to the other engine, if it might
be hidden away somewhere, or if it too was scrapped, I just want to
verify what happenned to it after being sold, but finding data is pretty
good dig.

Its Ironic these engines survived, after being sold for scrap, N&W still
had 4-8-0's on the active roster and O Winston Link chronicled some of
them on The Fading Giant recording. None of the active engines were
saved from the scrappers torch. This is why we as a group have been so
adamant to save those engines in any way possible.

We know many artifacts were removed off the engines, if anyone knows or
sees or encounters things like steam pressure indicators at train shows,
etc or someone is in possession of parts off the engines, lets us know,
we just want to keep record of it, any restoration efforts can replace
any part on the engines.
