Norfolk and Western Receipts for August Totaled $3,100,000
Roanoke World: The most cheering news near the opening of the fall season is the announcement from the general offices of the Norfolk and Western that the month of August surpassed in earnings any month in the history of the company. The receipts for the month totaled up $3,100,000.
Even better is the news that the last week of the month was also ahead of any week in the history of the great system.
One would not have been surprised at this great showing if it had been for the first month of the fall or spring but it comes in a summer month when many were whispering about that a depression was on or coming, and were worried about the shops, slackening up work for three days.
The trainmen and the shop workers the coal fields showed that great train was rushing,* and reports came from the coal fields showing that train after train was blocking the western division of the road. Trainmen here also knew that business was good on the eastern division, and the passenger business tested the capacity of the trains.
Yes, this is good news when the Norfolk and Western reports that August receipts were over $3,000,000, and that the last week broke all records.
