TRAIN'S ACROBATIC FEAT
------
Considerable Story of Jumping Car Wheels Comes From the Scioto Division
The Ironton Register says that Norfolk and Western freight train No. 84 narrowly avoided a wreck at the railroad crossing at Front and Center streets. A heavy east bound train was passing over the crossing at about ten o'clock when a brake beam and shoe fell from one of the cars and got fastened in the frog of the Norfolk and Western and Detroit, Toledo and Ironton tracks.
Several cars passed over the obstruction but hitting it, the trucks of each car jumped up from the rails, but fortunately alighted on the rails again instead of becoming derailed. Several bystanders saw the incident and report it was very strange that none of the cars left the track.
The train never stopped, the trainmen not being aware of the mishap until the end of the train had passed over the obstruction.
------
[They were also lucky that none of the cast iron wheels of the era shattered from the impacts.]
